The Business Diagnostics team provides consulting advice and insight throughout Canada and various countries worldwide.
The following are examples of our consulting approaches and engagements.
The Strategic Business Assessment (SBA)
The SBA is a pragmatic consulting report which involves a comprehensive review of a company or organization’s operations. The review is based upon current financial statements and follows a ‘size –up’ diagnostic model structured as follows:
EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT – of the opportunities and threats presently facing the company, along with an evaluation of the prevailing industry competitive environment.
INTERNAL ASSESSMENT – of the strengths and weaknesses in the following functional areas: Finance, Marketing, Operations, Human Resources, Technology, and Strategy.
Arising from this diagnostic review, key issues to be addressed by company management, are identified and documented. An action plan covering the various functional areas is then developed along with an implementation framework.
This process provides management with a succinct assessment of corporate performance and a focus on the formulation and implementation of future growth strategies. This important exercise is typically completed on an annual basis.
The Strategic Team Review (STR)
The Strategic Team Review (STR) is a proven and systematic approach where the Business Diagnostics team delivers tactical and pragmatic guidance to their clients. An easy to follow facilitation tool – the Strategy Scan™, is utilized in a team setting as a basis for data and information gathering during a one-day strategic planning session.
The company owner and his/her senior management team work together to craft a ‘living’ strategic plan using the Strategy Scan™ template, which can be reviewed and up-dated on a regular basis.
Team members benefit from inclusion into the planning process and are exposed to a readily understandable model that delivers tactical action plans with their input. A comprehensive ‘strategic scan’ is a rarity in most small and medium operations and can help solidify teams onto a single path, differentiating them from their competition.
The Enterprise Review Summary (ERS)
The Enterprise Review Summary (ERS) is a proven and systematic approach that allows Business Diagnostic team to deliver tactical and pragmatic guidance to their clients when they work with bankers/investors to arrange additional funding to grow their operations.
An ERS financial spreadsheet concisely captures key historical financial ratios and trends. The company owner, coached and assisted via the Business Diagnostics process, then presents a concise, strategic application for financing or investment. The recipient lender or investor gains comfort from the knowledge that the company owner has received professional financial guidance and was also actively involved in the funding application process.
“The ‘Business Diagnostics’ approach provided much needed focus and stability during a difficult succession period and now, looking forward, our intention is to continue using its practical framework for strategic planning on a regular basis.” J.M Baron Managing Director, Statiflo International, Manchester, UK
